Police are calling on witnesses to come forward after a car was stolen from outside a house in Brightons - just one of a number of number of vehicle thefts and break-ins around the area over a few days.…
Member of the Scottish Parliament for Falkirk East, Angus MacDonald, is asking people in Brightons to nominate their ‘Local Hero’, who will take part in the riding procession to the Scottish Parliament in the Royal Mile on Friday 1 July, alongside MSPs, schoolchildren, religious leaders and prominent Scots.
Before the centuries old tradition of the riding takes place the fourth session of the Scottish Parliament will be marked by Her Majesty The Queen addressing newly elected members of the parliament.
In the afternoon, the Scottish Parliament will open its doors to guests and members of the public with an Open Day, free tours and musical performances to showcase young Scottish talent.
All Members of the Scottish Parliament are inviting local heroes from their area to come to Holyrood to take part in the riding, ensuring it reflects Scotland’s achievements and aspirations.
‘Local heroes’ are people nominated by MSPs in recognition of the important contribution which they have made to the lives of other people living in Scotland either locally or nationally. This can be someone who has made a contribution that has been largely unrecognised thus far: for example, someone who has given long term service to a school or community project in Falkirk East.
Local MSP Angus MacDonald said:
"I would ask my constituents to send me nominations for who they feel best deserves to represent Falkirk East as our ‘local hero’. It will be an exciting day for everybody involved in the procession and the ceremony and I am very much looking forward to it.
“ It is a great opportunity for someone who has worked tirelessly on behalf of others in the community to get the recognition they deserve. I look forward to receiving these nominations.
“ This ceremony and procession is part of the wider celebration of the new session of Parliament and it is sure to be a spectacular event.
“ These are historic times for Scotland and the Scottish Parliament and I have no doubt they will be unforgettable for the local heroes involved.”
Nominations for a ‘Local Hero’ from Falkirk East must be sent to Angus MacDonald MSP, The Scottish Parliament, Edinburgh, EH99 1SP by Tuesday 31 May or by e-mailing firstname.lastname@example.org by the same date.
