Police warn Brightons residents of Microsoft scams
Police are warning Brightons residents of bogus callers after recent incidents in the Braes.
In the reported episodes, the callers claimed to be from Microsoft and that they were calling to advise occupants that their software needed updated.
The callers would then attempt to obtain personal details, such as user names and passwords and possibly even bank details.
A community officer warned locals to be aware, adding: “Microsoft and other large companies do not make calls like these.
“They are scams aimed at obtaining persons information which can then be sold on to fraudsters or used for personal gain.
“Do not provide any personal information at all over the phone or via the internet.
“Reputable companies just do not operate in this manner.”
